John Nachreiner
Shady Canyon Golf Club
Excellence in Turfgrass, Private
Many of you may know John Nachreiner from his recent time as our GCSASC President, or from his last ten years as the Director of Agronomy at Shady Canyon Golf Club, but his presence in Southern California began back in 2004 when he worked as an Assistant Superintendent under Brian Sullivan at Bel Air Country Club.
Since then, he has held positions at La Quinta Country Club, The Vintage Club and oversaw three private courses within The Cliffs portfolio in North and South Carolina including the initial phases of construction for what would have become, but unfortunately never became, the first Tiger Woods designed course in the United States.
John set the standard for bentgrass greens management in the Southern California market by safeguarding them from Poa annua intrusion and elevating turfgrass conditions coursewide through membership education that guided them towards creative, economical and sustainable turf management decisions.
John has also established a history of successful training and staff development. He refuses to allow comfortability to get in the way of anyone’s potential, and as a result has helped five assistants elevate to their own Superintendent positions, as well as numerous others into better opportunities both in and out of the industry.
During his tenure at Shady Canyon, John’s leadership and training of future leaders has inspired an increase in turf conditioning throughout our community and we are excited to present this award of “Excellence in Tufgrass – Private” to John today.
